Student Teaching Assignment

I am so excited because I finally got my student teaching assignment!!

It is no longer a mystery!

I will be going to Brimhall JHS in Mesa, AZ.

I start January 4th and my cooperating teacher in Larry Johnson.

I get to teach 8th grade social studies and I will be lucky enough to

cover the Cold War, Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam War, etc.

Last Saturday we got to go to Travis and Megan's wedding!

They were married on October 22, 2011 in the San Diego Temple.

We woke up last Thursday to 2 inches of water covering our entire apartment. Keep in mind that we woke up to this about an hour before we were supposed to leave for the airport to go to Justin's brothers wedding.

The washing machine hose had burst...

We called our landlord.

After leaving tons of wet clothes, shoes, furniture sitting in water, etc. we came back Sunday night to find that it still wasn't dry.

We had to stay in a hotel that night that we had to pay for!

So Monday we took off work and school and came home to this...

and this...

We are still working on putting everything back where it belongs.

Plus they couldn't stretch back out our carpet because they would need everything cleared out...umm no thank you.

We are leaving in 7 weeks so for now we will live with lumpy carpet...

Poor people who are moving in after us!!

This past week Justin's parents came to town to visit us for a few days before the semester started.

We had such a wonderful time and were sad to see them go.

They got here Sunday night and left Thursday morning.

Monday we went to the Bodies Exhibit in Idaho Falls. It was so cool to see all of the bodies. It amazes me that some people think we just all of the sudden came to be. When you see something like that it just confirms that there is a God in Heaven.

Later that night we met up with Justin's cousin Sean and his wife Emily for dinner and a movie.

Tuesday we woke up bright and early to head over to Jackson Hole, WY to go white water rafting!

After rafting we went into downtown Jackson to walk around and have lunch. It is so pretty there.

California Trip 2011

We had such an awesome time at home! It went by way to fast! We got to spend time with both families. We went to the beach, did some bowling, had some wonderful family dinners, dinners with friends, swimming, etc.

Saturday night we went to Rosa's Cafe for dinner and then went to see Captain America. So good.

Lucy found a tube of lipstick in the back seat and figured out how to twist it up and put it on :) when my mom went to get her out of the back Lucy said, "Look Aunt Jen I did my lips!" Change Of Plans

Well in true Justin and Casey fashion we have made a change of plans.

The original plan was to finish up here at BYU-Idaho in December and then head to Meridian, ID to student teach and to live...Well we decided that wasn't exactly what we wanted to do so...

We made the decision to do my student teaching in Mesa. It is only 3 months and we could live in my Grandma's basement in Gilbert which is right next door...

And the we could move back to Temecula!!! We have thoroughly enjoyed our time away as our own little family but we miss our families back home!!! We don't really want to stay there forever but neither of our families are in a position to move yet so until then we thought we would go to them. Plus then they won't complain about never seeing their grand kids when they actually get some from us!! Just a little longer people ;)

Today was my first day at the middle school with the 5th graders and needless to say this is why I signed up to teach high school! They weren't really that bad, I Just prefer older kids!! Between their weird comments and them not being able to sit still I am so grateful I am not an El Ed major! However I did enjoy the one girl who told me I looked pretty and she really liked my glasses :)

I really wish I was better at having Charity. I have an education class this semester that requires me to spend time in a classroom twice a week observing, preparing, and teaching. For those of you who don't know I am a Social Science Ed Major and I want to teach high school so imagine my dismay when I looked over the syllabus and discovered that we would be in a middle school and even worse it would be with a 5th grade class (they are weird up here and middle school is 5-7 grade) anyways I don't know if I'm going to be so hot at the whole 5th grade thing. I like older students. Yes a whole different array of problems come with high school but I am comfortable with them. Here's to an interesting semester!

I'm Finally Where I Belong...

The first day of Spring Semester was today and I finally feel like I am where I belong. I am with my "peeps" for lack of a better word. As I sat in my first class this morning (Renaissance and Reformation) I felt at home. I have reached the point in my college career where I only have classes that apply to me. As we were doing introductions this morning one kid proudly exclaimed that he was a history major and he sucked at math. All of us gave an AMEN to that brother.

Writing Papers-I can do that

Reading lots of books- I can do that

Studying the lives of those in the past- Love to do that

Not ever having to complete another math problem- Gladly do that

This semester will be difficult. It will require a lot of hard work and discipline but I am excited because to me it is interesting. Justin looked at me funny this morning when I got home with a big smile on my face but unless you are passionate about the subject of history you will never understand the enjoyment that comes from studying it.

We live in a world where marriage is not held as anything sacred. It is more of a lets try it out and if it doesn't work out oh well kind of thing. I love being married and I am so grateful that I was lucky enough to marry my best friend. I am also so grateful that Justin and I were able to be sealed in the temple because I think it gives us as Latter Day Saints a different perspective on marriage. It is forever and it is to be worked on and cherished not just thrown to the side when things get rough. I am grateful for Justin's sunny disposition and for the wonderful man he is. I snagged a good one. Here's to marriage!!

Back in 2007 I came to a summer program at BYU-Idaho. It was by far one of the best experiences of my life and I met some really wonderful people. Last night a few of us met up at Craigos. It was great to catch up.

Napping

What is it about napping that is so amazing? I seriously live for naps. Like I have mentioned in the past I seem to be tired ALL OF THE TIME as well as have a migraine ALL OF THE TIME so a nap is the prefect cure! I take one practically every day (I am enjoying this while I still don't any kids because I know when I do my beloved naps will fly away) and even though I usually intend to only sleep an hour it ends up being 2-3 sometimes more. Something is seriously wrong with me. I practically sleep my life away. O well. For example, Justin and I woke up yesterday right at 10 so we could watch conference. Then I took a nap from 12-2 and woke up to watch the next session and then was in bed again at 10. Today I slept from 4-6:45. Tomorrow I'll probably sleep some more...Sweet dreams :)

This is Jennifer Hale. She is one of my very best friends. We met about 2 years ago in American Sign Language Class. Our relationship at first included class and going to Del Taco to eat lunch and get churros! Because of that we ended up doing Valleys Biggest Loser together ;) where we became best friends. This has been consuming my life...

I am in HIST 300 this semester which is writing and research in history. Sounds exciting huh? Well if you like history like I do then it is actually pretty interesting however this is by far the most stressful class I have ever been in. 40% of our grade lies in one 10 page paper due in exactly 15 days. Time is ticking. The rough draft is due Wednesday and I am only 5 pages in. For those of you who don't know Hiss was a well respected man who held various government positions, Chambers on the other hand was a weasel of a guy who worked for a magazine. He came forward as a self-proclaimed Communist and then in turn accused Hiss of treason and espionage. Needless to say it was highly controversial. Fun to learn about but stressful to write about. I really should be writing more of it now but I just had to take a break!!! Wish me luck for if I don't pass this class I can't take any more history courses and my life is ruined and I won't graduate on time. No pressure or anything...

Salt Lake

I had a chance this past weekend to head down to salt lake to spend sometime with my mom and sister. Justin's brother came up to Rexburg so he didn't get to come with me :(

My mom and I went with our good family friend Patti to the Salt Lake temple Saturday morning. My mom and I had never been and it was a great experience. I can't wait to go with Justin at some point.

Pond Skimming of course!!

What is pond skimming you may ask...

Pond Skimming is where an individual comes down a hill either using skis, snowboard or an air board and tries to “skim” across the cold pond of water without crashing.

We went with the Osbornes last night and had a blast despite the freezing cold and the fact that Heather and I had quiet a hard time hiking up the snowy hill in our slick boots...

I think I landed on my butt at least 10 times!!

Everyone was trying to help me up and I just kept slipping :)

Justin's younger brother Travis got home from his mission last Monday so we went home for the weekend to visit. He served in the Mexico City North Mission and He still has quiet an accent ;)

I went to leave at 830 for my classes yesterday morning. We have a remote start on our car so I started it, put the keys in the ignition, and closed the door to keep the heat in while I went to open the back door to get the scraper out to scrape the ice off of my windshield. Except for when I tried to open the back door it was locked and so were all of the other doors.

My keys, phone, everything was in the car. I had to go down to our neighbors to borrow their phone and luckily our insurance covered a locksmith.

Needless to say at 10 o'clock he finally showed up and opened my door.

What a waste of gas!!!!!!!

Hopefully I won't do that again!

So let me begin this post with sharing that at this point in time I am super sick with a nasty head cold, Justin is at a convention at the Disneyland hotel until Sunday which I could have been at with him if I didn't have to start stinkin school, and I had my first day of classes today...

I have 6 classes this semester (well technically 5 1/4 since the lab is only 1 credit)

7:45- GEOG 101 lab

9:00- HIST 300

10:15- GEOG 101

11:30- ED PSYCH 304

ONLINE- SOC 111

ONLINE- D&C

So to begin the morning I drag myself out of bed to go out in the freezing temperatures to scrap ice off of my car (BTW could not be happier to have a car-I think I would have DIED if I had to walk-Literally) drive up to campus to park and although I paid for a parking permit I cannot find it anywhere because Justin put it somewhere when I was gone and now it is MIA.

Get to my Geography Lab where he tells us attendance isn't mandatory!!! WOOHOO!!! 7:45 would be the end of me! Thanks dad for being a geography teacher ;)

Next up HIST 300. I was nervous about this class before I even got there. Walk in and there are about maybe 17 students. Professor begins to scare us by telling us that the statistics are that 1/3 of the class will fail (did I mention the class is only 17 students-the odds aren't good).

Apparently its meant to weed out the wanna bees and the true historians (whatever that's supposed to mean)

Average grade is a C-. Great at this point my head is pounding, I need to blow my nose, and I think I just peed my pants in fear!

After a trip to the bathroom to blow my nose and to make sure I really didn't pee my pants I head out into the cold to my Geography class. Can already tell this is going to be the longest hour of them all. Now don't get me wrong I really like geography but I don't think the professor could be any more dry and monotone.

Last but not least ED PSYCH...by this point I could not wait to be done so I could just go crawl into bed with the option to blow my nose whenever I felt like it.

Now since this is an ED class all the students are aspiring teachers. We all remember the super weirdy teachers, the normal ones, and the super awesome ones (which will be me. HAHA. JK. well hopefully)

Anyhoo this class is not lacking in the weirdy department! Its full of them in fact. This should be an interesting semester.

Once that was over I headed to my car to find a warning for not having a permit...guess I better find that soon.

Came home, ate lunch, fell asleep for 4 1/2 hours, went to walmart to pick up medicine, Kleenex, and cupcakes (the remedy to any cold) and am now sitting here alone boring you all with my post. Whats a girl to do when her husbands gone??

Christmas Break 2010

Although we got an awesome new camera for Christmas I only managed to take a few pictures of the time we were in Temecula. We had a great time!

We went ice skating with Justin's family one night and I was so afraid to break anything due to a lack of insurance that I was quiet a weenie and watched everybody else most of the time.

Tuesday Joyce, Spencer, Troy and I went to Disneyland to meet up with some of Joyce's friends who were visiting from Utah! It was so packed!! They weren't letting anyone else into Disneyland because it was so full so it took me a good two hours and a lot of pleading for them to let me in!! I had to get in one last time!!

I'm pretty much chopped liver next to Justin now when it comes to Lucy! She is absolutely obsessed with him!! All we ever heard her saying was "Justin, Justin! Up!"

She insists on going into the bathroom with me every time and yesterday when I flushed the toilet she waved and said, "Bye, Bye Pee Pee" I love that girl!!

When I come home I realize how much I don't miss this...

and when you smell cigarette smoke you think it is weird rather than the norm...

I miss being in a place where you can drive down the freeway and this is on the side of the road!

and where this is pretty much the only place to shop.

All in all i think its safe to say...

Well at least for now I do. I think its the fact that Rexburg is where our home now is...

Its where are friends are...

Its where we are our own little family...

I always miss my family but we are sure enjoying our adventures in Idaho!

I have been observing and I find myself laughing almost daily while on campus here at BYU-I DO...

Pretty much there are only two reasons you come to school here...

1. Get married

2. Get an education (and yes this is second to getting married)

It is joked about, but it is 100 percent true and there are many people that take this task SERIOUSLY!!!

As I rode my bike to school I saw several girls that were primped, curled, dressed super cute and had that "I'm gonna find a man!" look in their eyes!

These single people always make sure to attend devotional so they can show the opposite sex how righteous and spiritual they are.

They make sure that they attend every activity that there may be an opportunity to meet their eternal companions.

Both ladies and gents flirt relentlessly and half the time make a fool out of themselves.

I must say it makes for some great entertainment and I can't even say how nice it is to go to school just to go to school. Although even if your married that doesn't stop some guys from trying!

The Haunted Mill

Last night we went to The Haunted Mill which is about 15 min outside of Rexburg. Justin and I went about three years ago when he came to visit me before we were engaged! For most of you that know me, you know that I am a total wimp. I get scared basically by anything and this place is SCARY!!! I think the creepiest part is that its an actual old mill so the setting is perfect...anyways this is it...Justin and I before going in...I was practically having a panic attack!

Pet Peeve

We had stake conference this weekend which by the way was great! However both last night and this morning we had the privilege of sitting next to two terrible children and their respective parents. The one little girl was covered in some sort of brown stuff, had no shoes on, made sure to hit me several times, and laughed and cried the whole meeting. The little boy this morning decided that he would use his toy horse to bang on the metal chair while his mother just looked straight ahead. He also kept hitting the guy next to him and throwing temper tantrums.

Now don't get me wrong I now love children (I used to hate them) but I have a real problem with children that are loud, obnoxious, whiny, dirty, and mean in church and their parents pay no attention to them! I mean come on! Seriously?! What is the deal here.

I've come up with a theory...I think because everyone and their brother pretty much has a young child that they think that no one will care if their kid is screaming at the top of their lungs in church so they never bother to take them out.

I remember when I had one of those stupid computerized dolls in my child development class in high school that as soon as that thing started to cry in sacrament meeting I booked it!

I can't say how I will be as a parent because I am not currently one, but I can tell you one thing-my kid will not be screaming in sacrament meeting while I just listen as if nothing is wrong. I'm sorry but there are some people who would like to hear and feel the Spirit...just saying. I know you would like to hear too but that's just a sacrifice you have to make when you have young children...that's why there are speakers in the foyer.

Well enough of my rambling, i just had to see how you guys feel about this...don't mean to offend anyone.

weekend getaway...

We were able to head down to Salt Lake this past weekend for a little getaway...we needed a little break from rexburg ;) And I wanted Blair to do our hair! So nice to have a family of hairdressers!

We were able to stay with the Services who have been super close family friends since I was born!

Saturday morning we went to Will's soccer game. Will belongs to Elsha and Elsha belongs to Patti and Chad...He seriously is the cutest kid who is way beyond his years! He always keeps you entertained with his funny comments! My new favorite Will comment was said to his grandpa, Chad, after he caught a chicken at the rodeo...

Will: Hey Cops(what he calls chad) Does that chicken have chicken in it?

Chad: Ya

Will: Then lets eat it!

I don't think he realized you would have to kill the chicken to eat it!

Justins dream come true!!! Cabelas!This place is huge!!!!! I spent most of my time here in the home decor section which was mostly cabin looking stuff (not really my cup-o-tea) and in the shoe section (i pretty much love ALL shoes!!)

Patti and Chad were so kind and took us to Texas Roadhouse for lunch and Blair and her roommate met us there!

It was a great weekend and a nice change of scenery!

I'm the type that goes to the store and buys the cute things that other people make, but Heather told me about these and so we decided to make them! We went and got everything but I didn't get to finish them until tonight. In the middle of putting the candy on Justin came out of our room and wanted to be crafty too haha so he joined me and made the one in the middle. You gotta love my husband...he cross stitches and likes to craft! I swear he is more of a woman than I am ;) Any who I am happy with the way they came out and hopefully I can continue to at least attempt to be crafty! Thanks again Heather!!
